Irene’s Cupcakes: turning a passion into a business

In today’s competitive world, small businesses need impactful, user-friendly websites to stand out from the competition and reach their target market.
Irene’s Cupcakes is a Malta-based bakery operating from San Gwann. With a need to reach more customers, the owner, Irene approached Napkin to assist with the development of her website.


Authentic design



Napkin took a holistic approach to the website, carefully creating a design that would best reflect the bakery’s brand. The style used portrays Irene’s simplicity and authenticity. In keeping with the brand colours, different shades of orange and blue were used throughout the website.

The design of the website was heavily influenced by the material she already had on her Facebook page and Instagram profile. These went a long way into providing insight into Irene’s personality, as well as the culture of her business.

Purposeful fact-finding


Before starting the design and development, we carried out research into current market trends in the baking industry and this resulted in us producing an aesthetically modern website, with the functionality required to support the business.

We believe in engaging with our clients throughout the design journey. Our goal is to create websites that not only serve business needs, but that also reflect the ambitions and vision of the owner. In this case, we achieved this by consulting with Irene regarding all elements that went into creating the website, at every stage.



Business-focused functionality


 Once we knew what the style would be, we focused on what we wanted visitors to the site to do once they got there. The idea was to have a showroom of images as well as a simple and clear way to contact Irene for order requests. We thus created a gallery, which places her products in four different categories, making it easy for customers to find what they are looking for.

We also added an “Order” section that carries a form with essential requirements such as when the cake should be ready as well as requiring customers to specify how many people the cake should serve.

Customers usually want to know the story behind brands they engage with. We, therefore, created a page entitled “About Me” where we tell the story of how Irene’s passion started and how her hobby slowly became a source of income.

The blog is Napkin’s latest addition to the website and it allows Irene to insert blog post directly from a backend tool. Simple, clear and intuitive, the tool is made to simplify the blog posting process and includes a text editor, image uploader along with different theme options for the style of the blog page.

These developments have aided Irene to steadily increase her client base. Pleased with the results, she uses the website, along with her Facebook page and Instagram profile, to engage and connect with her clients. What more could we ask for? 🙂
